Inspiration for the Netflix Limited Series, Tales of the CityThe fifth novel in the beloved Tales of the City series, Armistead Maupin’s best-selling San Francisco saga. Tranquillity reigns in the ancient redwood forest until a women-only music festival sets up camp downriver from an all-male retreat for the ruling class. Among those entangled in the ensuing mayhem are a lovesick nurseryman, a panic-stricken philanderer, and the world’s most beautiful fat woman. Significant Others is Armistead Maupin’s cunningly observed meditation on marriage, friendship, and sexual nostalgia.  1. This book has two stories for children that deal with the central theme of greed. Following the tradition of Panchtantra, both the stories have forests as their settings with animals as characters. The first story, the titular 'Sookha Ghulab', is about a very beautiful but proud vixen, Bhoori. She is vain and self-indulgent and doesn’t want to marry anybody but a tiger. Everyone in the forest tries to convince her otherwise but she refuses to budge, and, as a result, she is eventually banished from the forest. With the dream of marrying a tiger in her eyes, she painstakingly travels to another famous forest, Sundervan. There she meets another vixen who promises to help her find a groom. Will Bhoori find the tiger of her dreams or will her greed lead her to something else? The second story, 'Mama Garjo', is about a grief-stricken tiger who finds solace in letting little animals play with him. Although sometimes criticized for letting other animals forget their position in front of him, he stays calm and doesn’t let things bother him easily. He is friends with a vixen who persuades him to take her to a fair despite his reservations against the idea. Once there, she keeps pleading him to buy him things. Although unconvinced at first, he eventually gives in and hatches a plan to get her sweets without money by roaring on cue. This, however, only makes her greedy for more. Will the tiger figure out what the vixen is doing? Please note: This audiobook is in Hindi. 1. Hindi. Sarika Rathore. http://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/050168/bk_adbl_050168_sample.mp3.

Theodore Rex is the story - never fully told before - of Theodore Roosevelt’s two world-changing terms as president of the US. A hundred years before the catastrophe of September 11, 2001, “TR” succeeded to power in the aftermath of an act of terrorism. Youngest of all our chief executives, he rallied a stricken nation with his superhuman energy, charm, and political skills. He proceeded to combat the problems of race and labor relations and trust control while making the Panama Canal possible and winning the Nobel Peace Prize. But his most historic achievement remains his creation of a national conservation policy, and his monument millions of acres of protected parks and forest. Theodore Rex ends with TR leaving office, still only 50 years old, his future reputation secure as one of our greatest presidents.  1. Crystal meth, brushfires, and a murderer on the loose threaten Du Pré’s tranquil Montana town. Drought has come to Toussaint, Montana, and appendicitis has stricken the Mtis Indian tracker and investigator Gabriel Du Pré. His appendix is bad enough, but what really hurts is being trapped in the hospital when he learns that Maddy Collins has been killed. As far as Du Pré knows, no one in town had cause to dislike the harmless old coot, much less bash her head in with a cast-iron hatchet. When the doctors release him, he goes looking for answers. Du Pré suspects a pair of boys who, despite their good upbringing, have fallen in with a gang of meth dealers. Not long after the murder, they vanish. As the town is threatened by a forest fire, he hunts for the two young men, not knowing whether they are alive or dead. When the inferno reaches Toussaint, no one will be safe. 1. Language: English. The legendary Læstadius becomes a kind of Sherlock Holmes in this exceptional historical crime novel. It is 1852, and in Sweden's far north, deep in the Arctic Circle, charismatic preacher and Revivalist Lars Levi Læstadius impassions a poverty-stricken congregation with visions of salvation. But local leaders have reason to resist a shift to temperance over alcohol.Jussi, the young Sami boy Læstadius has rescued from destitution and abuse, becomes the preacher's faithful disciple on long botanical treks to explore the flora and fauna. Læstadius also teaches him to read and write - and to love and fear God. When a milkmaid goes missing deep in the forest, the locals suspect a predatory bear is at large. A second girl is attacked, and the sheriff is quick to offer a reward for the bear's capture. Using early forensics and Daguerrotype, Læstidius and Jussi find clues that point to a far worse killer on the loose, even as they are unaware of the evil closing in around them. To Cook a Bear explores how communities turn inwards, how superstition can turn to violence and how the power of language can be transformative in a richly fascinating mystery. 1. Change is inevitable. It's heading for Earth at 12,000 miles per hour...and it will land virtually undetected. For Jack McAllister, a young writer who has finally launched a career for himself, it begins tragically: his estranged father, a former NASA engineer, dies suddenly at his home in Merriweather, Indiana, leaving Jack's Alzheimer's-stricken mother a widow. But in the wake of personal heartbreak, he's confronted by an even more astonishing event - the covert landing of an alien machine in the forest just a few miles outside of town. Now Jack must unmask the true purpose of the otherworldly device that has begun a detailed environmental survey of the woods. Aided by the town's young and resilient female deputy sheriff, he soon discovers that the alien scout is only one small part of a much larger operation, and the countdown to a terrifying global catastrophe is about to take place. Drawing deeply from his father's scientific influence, all while attempting to avoid the snares of a sexy, seductive, and scheming local TV reporter, Jack uncovers-and ultimately finds himself an unwilling component of-an alien plan set to terminate life on Earth as we know it. 1. Joe Gere said he died on the afternoon his 12-year-old daughter Brenda disappeared. It was left to Brenda's mother Elaine to sustain her stricken family, search for her missing child, and pressure the authorities for justice. From the first minutes of the investigation, suspicion fell on Michael Kay Green, a steroid-abusing "Mr. Universe" hopeful, but there was no proof of a crime, leaving police and prosecutors stymied. Tips and sightings poured in as lawmen and volunteers combed the Cascades forest in the biggest search in Northwest history. Years passed with no sight of the blue-eyed girl or the bright clothes she'd worn on the day she disappeared, but Elaine remained undaunted. Salt of the Earth is the true story of how one woman fought and triumphed over life-shattering violence and how she healed her family - and herself. Salt of the Earth is the true story of a courageous woman who survived a hellish 20th-century nightmare. Mob violence, injustice, kidnapping, murder, and suicide were the black holes in the awful astronomy of Elaine Gere's life. Somehow she had to summon the courage to endure: to honor her beloved dead and to rebuild the shattered lives of the sons who depended on her strength. Jack Olsen has been lauded for his psychological insights into the most violent criminals in such previous masterworks as Doc, The Misbegotten Son, and Predator, but he has never overlooked their victims. By viewing the world through the eyes of Elaine Gere and her devastated family, he finds the core values that enabled them not only to survive and flourish, but, in the end, to triumph. 1.
